Heron Tower had topped out earlier that week. After warming up on another high building site, 100 Middlesex St, we wandered past the hoarding and after a split-second decision, took advantage of a break in traffic and went for it. With legs already tired from the previous climb, the ascent took a while. The transition to external Haki stairs added a little spice, and the final floor was reached via a ladder.
Looking down on the Gherkin and Tower 42, I found myself /shaking from a combination of cold and adrenaline release, slowly acclimatizing to the strange sensation of being the highest person in the city for a few brief minutes. Little did I know that the bar would not just be raised, but absolutely shattered, just one year later.
